HOW TO SET UP YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY SITE

The Kids’ Portal site may be customized by North Carolina librarians. It's as simple as 1-2-3:

Step 1. Register your site.

Provide basic information about your Local Library Site -- your library name, address, and hours of operation. You will also need to identify your Local Site Administrator. Complete this process by clicking the "Register" link at the bottom of this page.

The Portal Administrator at the State Library will verify the information you provide in the registration form. Once your information has been verified, the Portal Administrator will notify you that your site has been activated.

Step 2. Customize your site.

Your activated site comes with default settings. You may launch your site without customizing it and use these default settings, or you may customize your site by:

  • Displaying your own logo or library image at the top of the Local Library information panel on the left side of the web page. (Default image: The Very Best Place to Start logo);

  • Specifying up to 5 sites that you wish to appear under the Local Links area of the Local Library panel. (Default links: 3 sites NC Wise Owl, NC Live Reference Tools, and Secretary of State Kids Page
  • );

  • Removing some of the optional content topics (i.e., Fun & Games, TV) that are presented on the site. (Default display: All topics are displayed for all ages); and/or

  • Choosing whether or not local users will be able to search the Internet from the Portal using Google SafeSearch. (Default: Searching Portal sites is possible but Google SafeSearch is off).
